Here is an example of how we produced the artwork for packaging using the CAD sculpt for the real toy.
CAD was imported into Maya and UV unwrapped in Rizom3D using mostly custom cuts and unfolding.
The textures were then painted in Substance Painter using the actual vector deco sheets.
The shaders were assigned in vray for Maya and in this case we used VRayAlSurface and VRayStochasticFlakesMtl blended together using VrayBlendMTL to achieve the exact look.
Lighting was set up in HDR light Studio using a blurred Haven picture light as a base and then the key light and fill lights were added. We added a Vray Rect light as an additional rim light.

We used ACES-CG color management with OCIO in the framebuffer and exported a raw EXR. The correct view transforms were added in Photoshop to match the Vray Framebuffer. Some minor color tweaking was added also but render is more or less as it appears in the VFB.
